Classes for Ages 9-12

Class Descriptions

Ballet

Learn to execute techniques using the ballet barre, center floor, traveling sequences, & choreography. Classes concentrate on elements of flexibility, body alignment, and ballet terminology.

Pointe &
Pre-Pointe

Invitation only. Intermediate & advanced ballet students working toward or en pointe will be required to take ballet 2x/week.

Modern &
Contemporary

Learn proper body alignment while exploring both technical & creative aspects of dance. Introduces the ideas of fall/recovery, contraction/release along with improvisation. Sometimes incorporates acrobatic styles.

Jazz

An upbeat & fun dance style with ballet-based movement, pop-oriented music, & theatrical by nature. Students work on flexibility, alignment, and terminology related to the jazz syllabus.

Tap

An excellent way to gain coordination & musicality through percussion, music, and rhythm. Learn tap terms & work to develop speed, complexity, and improvisational skills as you advance.

Hip-hop

Explore different street dancing styles through this high-energy class. All classes use “clean” & age-appropriate music.

Ribbon Dance

Learn creative dance movements while exploring the ribbon aspect of rhythmic gymnastics. Choreography is learned and broken down along with age appropriate music and proper ribbon technique.

Acro

Acrobatic dance is a style that combines dance technique with acrobatic elements and gymnastics. With precision and athleticism, acro involves balancing, limbering, tumbling, and partner work

Tumbling

Gymnastics floor technique & tumbling skills. Learn dive rolls, handstands, cartwheels, round-offs, walk-overs, handsprings, back tucks, aerials, etc.; Placement is based on individual skill levels. (No recital)

Irish Dance

(Ages 7+) A traditional Gaelic or Celtic dance forms that originated in Ireland. It is performed with intricate foot work and is most known for the dancers performing with a stiff upper body. Unlike other dance forms, Irish dancers do not move their arms or hands so that footwork is accented. 

Adaptive Dance

(Ages 6-9) Dance class specifically designed for students with physical and mental disabilities. Dancers will explore creativity while improving interpersonal/communication, spacial awareness, locomotor skills, and self confidence in a controlled setting. This class aims to expand the the world of arts to those of all abilities and diagnoses.

Attire

Ballet/Pointe

Solid colored leotard. Pink tights. Ballet bun. Split sole ballet shoes/ pointe shoes.. Hair in a ballet bun.

Jazz, Modern, & Contemporary

Any leotard, tights, unitards, or form-fitting dance wear. Black split sole jazz shoes, bare feet or half-soles for Modern and Contemporary. Hair out of face.

 

Tap

Comfortable, non-distracting clothing. Black split sole Tap shoes.

Hair out of face.

Hip-hop

Comfortable, non-distracting clothing. Sneakers only worn for class (stones and dirt can scratch our marley floors) Hair out of face.

Acro, Tumbling & Ribbon Dance

Leotard or biketard. Barefoot. Hair out of face.

Irish Dance

Comfortable, non-distracting clothing. Black ghillies, dance sneakers, or ballet slippers. Hair out of face.

NO DENIM/JEANS, NO DANGLING JEWELRY, and NO CHEWING GUM in ANY classes!
